WHO WE ARE
We are one Moose Family Center among hundreds throughout this country, Canada, England, and Bermuda.
We are a Fraternal Organization dedicated to the continuing success of both MOOSEHEART and MOOSEHAVEN.
We make every effort to offer all of our members a variety of activities that all can enjoy.
We strive to help someone each day.
We are dedicated to serving our community.
We are dedicated to Faith, Hope, and Charity.
Knowing who we are and some of our history has inspired many members and hopefully it will inspire you also.
New Smyrna Beach Lodge 1835 was instituted July 29, 1957. The first Governor was Julius L. Yambor.
That year a piece of land on Canal Street New Smyrna Beach was donated by K C Baldwin
and a small lodge was built. as the years went on and funds became available additions were added to the lodge icluding a full working kitchen.
In the year 2000 a decission was made by the members to sell the lodge and move to Edgewater, where the lodge has been for the past 9 years.
During the fires of the late 1990's we were the first to get food and water to the fire fighters
and as we were set up for this the Red Cross was able to come in and use our Facilities to continue to feed all firefighers that arrived from around the country.
Over all these years the lodge has been involved in numerous fund raisrs, many Community Service Projects, that we are known as a great leader in this field.
This community service includes the annual chowder contest that has raised more them $100,000.00 for the Sheriff's Youth Ranches, Girl and Boy Scout Troups, Little League, Scoccer, Meals on Wheels, Relay for Life and many many more. 2010 will see the start of the 1st annual Neil D Kimberly Golf Tournament to benefit The Sheriff's Youth Ranches. This will be held the day before the annual Chowder Contest and we will have a weekend of fund raising like none other. This service will be lead by the Saints Johns River Moose Legion #227.
We are proud to say that we have a brother in our lodge who is in his 80th year of Loyal Order of Moose service and is now 101 years old. George Zorn has been a proud fraternalist and after moving from Trenton, N.J. became a member of the New Smyrna Beach Lodge 1835. We believe that George is the oldest member in this great organization and is still very active. He attends meetings, special occassions, district meetings, Moose Legion Celebrations and he is now looking forward to attending the Nat'l Convention in Nashville. George has been an inspiration to all who have met him. His love of the Children at Mooseheart is second to none.
Brother Zorn passed away in January and he will be missed, as all our brothers and sisters who have broken the circle are.
They say that history repeats itself. We have a rich tradition, why not become part of the history that will be made over the next 50 years.
